Erawan Waterfalls and Phra That Cave Day Tour from Bangkok

Highlights
- Phra That Cave, a limestone cave system inside Erawan National Park
- Seven tiers of turquoise pools at Erawan Waterfalls
- Swim in the waterfall pools
- The bridge on the River Kwai
- Thai lunch included, vegetarian or halal on request
Description
Phra That Cave sits about twelve kilometres past the Erawan falls, inside the same national park, and it is the reason to pick this day over the cheaper Erawan tour. It is a working limestone cave, not a lit walkway with a handrail. You go through the chambers on foot with the guide, past stalactites that are still growing, and because the cave sits well off the waterfall circuit there are usually far fewer people in it than you will meet later at the falls.

This is a genuine cave. The footing is uneven and damp in places, the lighting is limited once you are past the entrance chamber, and there are sections low enough that you have to stoop, so it is a poor fit for anyone unsteady on steps or uneasy in enclosed spaces. There is no alternative activity for anyone who decides not to go in. The road out to the cave is slow as well, which is why this itinerary only reaches the falls at 13:30, and a torch or a phone light makes the side chambers much better than the main path lighting does.
