  • Damnoen Saduak Floating Market with a longtail boat ride
  • An hour of free time among the canal stalls
  • The bridge on the River Kwai
  • JEATH War Museum and the Death Railway story
  • Thai lunch included, vegetarian or halal on request

Description

Damnoen Saduak and the River Kwai are normally two separate day trips. This tour runs them back to back for people whose time in Bangkok is short, starting with the market while the morning light is still good and the canal is at its busiest. You arrive at 09:00, take a longtail boat into the heart of it, and then have about an hour among the stalls. The vendors sell fruit and noodles and grilled food straight off wooden boats, and everything from the cooking to the haggling happens on the water. The first hour is the best hour. By late morning the tour boats start to outnumber the produce boats, which is exactly why this itinerary puts the market before the bridge and not after.

The drive between the floating market and Kanchanaburi is about two hours in the middle of the day. That is the price of combining two trips that normally run separately, and it is a good stretch to sleep. At the market the longtail is included, but the small paddle boat that goes down the narrow side channels, where the actual vendors are, costs 150 THB on the day. It is the better vantage point if photographs are what you came for. Stall prices are opening bids rather than prices. The vendors expect you to haggle, and the first number is never the real one.
