River City Bangkok
River City Bangkok is the riverside complex in Si Phraya, just off Charoen Krung Road; any taxi or Grab driver knows it by name. Coming by river, get off at Si Phraya pier next to the Royal Orchid Sheraton and walk a couple of minutes, and from BTS Saphan Taksin you can pick up the Chao Phraya Express boat at Sathorn pier. Please arrive by 06:45, 15 minutes before the 07:00 departure.
Kanchanaburi sits about 130 km west of Bangkok, so the day begins at 07:00, with check-in at River City Bangkok by 06:45 or hotel pickup with your time confirmed after booking. The guide uses the drive to lay out the history you are about to walk through.
This is a history day more than a sightseeing one. The War Cemetery and the Thailand-Burma Railway Centre museum set a sober tone, and light, respectful clothing suits both. The museum is compact and well curated; give the pictures and artifacts the time they ask for.
The middle of the day is the part people remember: riding a simple local train along the original Death Railway track, then seeing the bridge on the River Kwai itself. Lunch is served at the station where you disembark, with drinks at your own expense.
The return reaches Bangkok in the late afternoon, with hotel drop-off to finish.
