Description

Coral Island is the reason people bother with Pattaya on a day trip from Bangkok. The water out there is a different proposition from the mainland beach, clear and calm and genuinely worth swimming in, and the crossing from the pier only takes about fifteen minutes by shared speedboat. Thais call the island Koh Larn. You reach the pier at about 09:00 after the early pickup and cross straight over. The bulk of the day is then yours on the island, with lunch at a local restaurant included at 12:30 and the hours either side free for swimming, lying on the sand, or paying for parasailing, a banana boat or a jet ski if that is your kind of thing. For more background and practical advice, see our Pattaya guide.

The speedboat lands at Tawaen, the busiest beach on the island. That is where the loungers, the umbrellas and all the water sports are, and every one of them costs extra and is paid in cash, with prices quoted per ride, so agree the number before you get on anything. Nothing on the island takes cards reliably. If you want quiet instead, Samae and Nual beaches are about ten minutes over the hill by songthaew and much emptier, and you have enough free time to go and come back without missing lunch.

FAQs

No. Parasailing, jet skis, banana boats, sun loungers and umbrellas are all paid separately on the island and are cash only. Agree the price before you start, as rates are quoted per ride rather than per hour.

Tawaen, the main beach on Koh Larn, which is where the speedboats dock and where the water sports run. Samae and Nual beaches are about ten minutes away over the hill by songthaew and are considerably quieter if you want somewhere calmer.

Around fifteen minutes each way by shared speedboat. It can be bumpy in rougher weather.
